Spring Break

I've been absent from my blog for a week now! and I thought I should make a quick post to let you know what I'm up to.
My parents are visiting us in Madrid from Australia for a week or so (after being stranded in Melbourne for a week waiting for the ash over Europe to clear) and while they're here I'm taking a bit of a Spring Break, to spend some time with them (It's been a year since we've seen each other!).
We've been so lucky that the weather has completely changed for their arrival Spring is really here ... finally!
Next week we're off to Italy for a week and a half and then I'll be back.

my creative space ...

This morning I am facing the challenge of cutting out a new dress pattern from some lovely red cotton that I bought the other day.
The difficult thing is that it's cut on the bias (the fabric never seems to lie flat!) and it's a pattern for a to the knee dress that I am extending so it falls to the ground.
Hopefully it all goes well. In any case I have until June to finish it.

Even though the weather has been horrible and the Spring very slow in coming there are now green shoots everywhere!
I think it's now safe for me to get out the seeds from last summers flowers and plant them in our tiny window ledge garden.
Tomorrow will be one week until the full moon, which makes it perfect timing.

It's mainly going to be basil and rocket (my favorites!) and hopefully I'll be able to find a corner to squeeze in some oregano, coriander, parsley and dill.

my creative space ...

This afternoon I had planned to start a new sewing project.
I have this very cute 1970's pattern for a playsuit and pinafore, I also have some soft antique rose pink fabric that I bought the other day.
But, this afternoon a did a quick tracing to have a play and I think this design really needs a contrasting fabric on the layer underneath (the playsuit).
My next step is to either buy some new fabric or work out a simple stencil and do some printing?

Today I had planned to celebrate spring with a collection of warm, sunny, light filled images ... but after three days of teasing the spring has disappeared again and we have been left with a grey sky and rain.
Yesterday I bought some beautiful red cotton to make a new dress and the design is on my mind ... so instead today is all about red.

New Earrings

I finished these little earrings yesturday along with a matching necklace.
They remind me of summer and the sea, I think because the little blue glass beads remind me of shells.
They will be available in my etsy shop soon :)

my creative space ...

I'm still working away at my first crochet blanket ... Sunday afternoons ... while watch the television etc but because I've been working on it for so long sometimes it's hard not to get distracted.
This is going to be a little blanket or maybe a cushion? Hopefully including some of these fabulous buttons.

spring in the south

I took these photographs on our trip down to the south last weekend.
It's usually very dry (more like a desert) but at the moment amazingly green and with so many flowers.
